Day 134 The Role of Spiritual Authorities

God does place authorities in our lives. Hebrews 13 reminds us of the value of these leaders:

“Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow...”Hebrews 13:7

We are called to honor, learn from, and follow their example as they follow Christ. But these leaders are not the source of our faith; God is. Leaders come and go. Pastors retire, mentors move, and spiritual guides pass away, but Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

When our faith is rooted in God, we will remain steady regardless of who is “in charge.” When we submit to the ultimate authority—our “Father of spirits” (Hebrews 12:9)—we develop a faith that the absence of any human figure cannot shake.

Living This Out

Practically, this means building our spiritual life on God’s Word, not someone else’s interpretation of it alone. It means having a prayer life and a vibrant walk with God regardless of who is watching. It means learning to hear and obey the voice of the Lord above all others.

So yes, respect those who “watch for your souls” (Hebrews 13:17). Submit to godly authority. But never confuse the servant with the Master. Follow God’s man only as he leads you closer to God—not as a replacement for God.

Because when the man is gone… will you still be faithful?

What habits or people have most helped you keep your focus on God alone?
